Teams and Clubs
Teams
Arbor Montessori’s core values include the development of each child’s emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical abilities and skills. The athletic program at Arbor strives to uphold these core values by providing a healthful, positive, and safe environment that fosters growth of the whole child/athlete.
Arbor’s program, based in a thorough understanding of the characteristics and needs of adolescents, is designed to balance an emphasis on team sports with an awareness of the skills, potential, and commitment of each individual player. The program also strives to create an atmosphere of competition without conflict. Should conflict occur, it provides an opportunity to practice conflict resolution skills. This philosophy is one additional way the Arbor education brings value to the student beyond the classroom.
The Arbor Middle School Athletics Program supports the following sports: Fall Sports - Cross Country – Coed; Winter Sports - Basketball – Boys/Girls; Spring Sports - Track & Field – Coed.
Athletic Milestones
The athletic experience in middle school is important and unique for many reasons including the following:
- The activity may mark the first or next step of a lifelong athletic pursuit, or
- The activity may be the last opportunity to participate in competitive, school-based athletics before moving on to institutions with more exclusive sports philosophies.
Both milestones are extremely important to the growth of the individual adolescent athlete. Consequently, while many athletic pursuits are team based, instruction and exposures are focused upon the individual and their requisite skill, potential, and commitment. This focus does not deemphasize the opportunities and benefits of team sports, but sets the priority of the Arbor athletic program to the individual student athletes to the greatest degree practical.
Clubs
Arbor parents volunteer to be in charge of various clubs free of charge throughout the year. This year we feature Running Club and Bicycle Club. Chess Club is one of our after school classes, for which there are fees.
